I thought it important to express my reasoning on the decision to employ a unified training platform in the Virtual 57th, which at the time of this writing will be the F-5E. The decision was borne out of goal oriented posture. In other words, I did not start the decision with "I love the F-5E, let's make it our trainer!" I started the consideration with "How do we produce the best virtual pilots we can, with a common set of fundamental skills?" I don't believe it's too ambitious to want to fly with a group of folks who have the same basic knowledge.
I'll state the obvious: The inconsistency of fundamental skills and habits between members can be directly attributed to the inconsistency in background, training, and general aviation knowledge. We can't solve the background problem: Most of us aren't military aviators. But we CAN solve the training and much of the general aviation knowledge here. The ideal Virtual 57th member is someone who enjoys the pursuit of learning and continual improvement at any age.
In most of the groups I've been a member of, even with their training programs were quite good, many members are attempting to learn even the most basic skills
